  I read all of the reviews for Carino before booking, and I am glad I did. Most of the people who have written negative reviews did so because they didn't get to see or swim with dolphins. This is explicitly stated on the Carino website, yes it is a gamble, but you're on a boat in the Bay of Islands, that in itself is so amazing!
  
  Carino is a small tour company, family run, and they follow the DOC rules to a T. The cruise was beautiful, we saw a huge pod of dolphins, swam to shore, hiked, had a great BBQ lunch, and a quiet sale back to Paihia. I highly recommend Carino other the larger tours.

  Don't expect to swim with Dolphins. Nice trip but not as advertised. The ploy is to swim with dolphins. There were plenty of Dolphins but we were told you can not get in the water if there is a baby Dolphin and that 95% of the time there are babies. I understand the reasoning and respect the ocean environment, but then Do Not Advertise that we will swim with them if they realize this very Rarely is offered.
  
  The tour took us near shore and offered for us to swim to shore or take a skid in. The captain had many life jackets but Refused to offer the swimmers life jackets unless they were Drowning. I was told if I think I have a problem swimming, Don't go in. There was no swimming challenge, but in open ocean it is nice to have a life jacket to float on.
  Refused. I do not understand why the jackets are saved for Drowning only. Wouldn't they want to prevent this and have the guests enjoy themselves?
  
  The commentary regarding sea life and culture could not be heard on the microphone. Very crackled.
  
  The lunch was just ok. 2 Sausages and coleslaw on a hot dog bun.
  $1 WATER $2 SODA and more for BEER. This again was not advertised as lunch did Not include drinks.
  
  They also left one person on shore and did not know they were missing. No head count. Thank goodness we did not pull away.
  
  I suggest another tour carrier instead.
